VENEERS
At Eastgate Dental & Cosmetic Centre, cosmetic veneers are thin tooth-coloured shells, they are typically used to correct discoloured or stained teeth, damaged teeth, chipped teeth, and for closing small gaps between teeth.
WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS?
Cosmetic veneers are typically used to correct teeth that are chipped, damaged, discoloured or stained and for closing small gaps between teeth. Veneers are thin tooth-coloured shells made of either porcelain, ceramic or composite material and are typically fitted to the upper and lower front teeth.
Very little tooth preparation is required for fitting veneers, so it’s a minimally invasive method of restoring front teeth. This results in a very natural and healthy smile.
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS FOR DENTAL VENEERS?
There are two stages to fitting veneers.
1) The first stage involves an impression to create moulds of your teeth. This impression is then sent to a dental laboratory, where the veneer is fabricated by highly skilled technicians.
2)The second stage is where the veneers are bonded to your teeth with dental adhesive.
A thorough assessment of your dental health is required to ensure you are suitable for them. A good quality and well-fitting veneer can last for 10 years if correctly cared for including good tooth brushing technique and flossing. The underlying tooth can still suffer from gum disease and decay if not cared for properly. Your dentist will go through the correct cleaning protocol for your veneers with you and discuss any other concerns you may have.

How often should I book an appointment for the Hygienist? It depends on the individual, some people are more prone to gum disease and some people find it harder to keep their teeth clean. If your oral hygiene is good, we recommend booking an appointment with your dentist every 6 months, or if you are more prone, we recommend it as often as every 3 months.

Why are hygiene appointments important?Hygiene appointments are integral to maintaining your dental health and keeping your teeth and gums clean. Your appointments will also allow us to treat the different stages of gum disease and prevent any other issues before they develop further.

What are the signs of gum disease?Gum disease is very common in the UK but it often goes unnoticed until it becomes severe. Common symptoms to look out for include a swollen and red appearance to the gums, and tenderness and bleeding while brushing. Another common sign is the receding of the gums, and the feeling that your teeth are becoming looser.
