 DENTURES

At Eastgate Dental & Cosmetic Centre, we make dentures to replace missing or damaged teeth, they fit comfortably over the gums and eliminate potential problems caused by gaps.

WHAT ARE DENTURES?

A denture is a removable appliance that can be used to replace missing or damaged teeth in the mouth and is typically constructed of acrylic, metal, or a combination of both.

Teeth may be lost due to decay, trauma, gum disease, or poor oral hygiene. This can lead to long-term deterioration of facial appearance, speech, and function.

There are three different denture options:

-    A
partial denture which is used to replace one or a few missing teeth.
-    A
full denture which is used to replace a full arch of missing teeth.
-    An
immediate denture which is used to replace teeth immediately after they have been extracted.

WHAT IS THE TREATMENT PROCESS FOR DENTURES?

Your dentures will be constructed by highly trained dental technicians to ensure the optimum fit around your gums and adjacent teeth. We will ensure you are completely satisfied with the fit and appearance of your new dentures and encourage regular dental visits to ensure they are comfortable.

WHAT IS THE AFTERCARE FOR DENTURES?

It often takes time to get used to a new set of dentures. The adaptation period varies on the wearers previous experience and age. During this period sore spots may arise, whilst speech and eating may be affected.

Denture hygiene and care is equally as important as caring for your natural teeth to prevent future problems with your dental health. Your dentist will be able to give you advice on how to clean and care for your dentures.
  • How often should I book an appointment for the Hygienist?
It depends on the individual, some people are more prone to gum disease and some people find it harder to keep their teeth clean. If your oral hygiene is good, we recommend booking an appointment with your dentist every 6 months, or if you are more prone, we recommend it as often as every 3 months.
  • Why are hygiene appointments important?
Hygiene appointments are integral to maintaining your dental health and keeping your teeth and gums clean. Your appointments will also allow us to treat the different stages of gum disease and prevent any other issues before they develop further.
  • What are the signs of gum disease?
Gum disease is very common in the UK but it often goes unnoticed until it becomes severe. Common symptoms to look out for include a swollen and red appearance to the gums, and tenderness and bleeding while brushing. Another common sign is the receding of the gums, and the feeling that your teeth are becoming looser.
