DENTAL HYGIENE
At Eastgate Dental & Cosmetic Centre, a dental hygiene appointment is a preventive dental visit that focuses on cleaning the teeth, removing plaque and tartar, and promoting good oral hygiene practices for maintaining optimal dental health.
WHAT IS DENTAL HYGIENE?
Our highly trained dental hygienists and therapists work alongside our dentists to offer preventative dental hygiene therapy to help you enjoy good oral and dental health and to reduce the risk of gum disease and other dental problems.
The purpose of dental hygiene treatment is to prevent and treat gum disease by offering tailored oral hygiene instructions and professional cleaning (scale and polish).
-A scale removes plaque and tartar build-up on your teeth.
Plaque is a sticky coating present on your teeth that forms constantly.
-A polish following the scaling of your teeth will restore the lustre in your teeth. Stains can also be removed with this treatment to make your teeth brighter and whiter.
Our dental therapists are also trained to provide fillings and extractions on children.
Advice on diet, smoking cessation, and the prevention of dental cavities is also a role the hygienists undertake. They will show you the correct technique for brushing, flossing, and the use of interdental brushes to remove plaque and food debris in areas that cannot be cleaned by your toothbrush.
WHY IS DENTAL HYGIENE IMPORTANT?
